Chichester and Selsey Sea Cadets - Piping Competition February 2024

January and February Updates

There's been lots of fun over the past couple of months at Chichester and Selsey Sea Cadets!

  1. We've spent some time with our friends at the Bognor Regis unit enjoying Burns Night Supper and learning how to use the Boatswain's Pipe.
  2. We then took part in Bognor Regis' Division night where our very own Lt Cdr Collins observed both the Senior and the Junior Cadets who showed great commitment to uniform standards.
  3. Lt Cdr Collins also presented one of our Juinor Cadets with his Air Rifle Weapons Handling Award which was earned after undertaking a structured programme whereby cadets are taught rifle handling skills and undertake range target shooting with an emphasis on safe and responsible use.
  4. We've also built rain gauges to be able to record the weather and rainfall, worked in teams to construct the highest tower possible using dry spaghetti and marshmallows and recapped our knots as part of our cadet's Seamanship skills.
  5. A combined team from Chichester, Littlehampton Sea Cadets and Cowes Sea Cadets units took part in the District Piping and Drill competition at HMS Sultan in Portsmouth. They performed to a great standard and represented their units brilliantly.
  6. The Juniors and Seniors received an outline of the activities they’ll partake in as part of this year's District Camp on the Isle of Wight including map reading and water skills.
  7. Most recently, the cadets learnt the NATO Phonetic Alphabet and were not only tasked with spelling their names using it but also played hangman using the Phonetic Alphabet to spell out ships and equipment.

We're looking forward to the next few months and hope that the lighter evenings allow more time for outside activites.
