A Huge thank you to the Trustees of the Edward V Vincent Trust for their kind donation of £500 towards the cost of purchasing a Yole, this gives us the first 20% and a goal for us to aim at.  Fundraising will now begin to raise the balance and achieve our target as soon as possible.

A lot of hard work over the last few weeks culminated in a weekend at HMS Raleigh for the South West Area Drill and Piping Competition.  Birmingham Sherbourne and their fellow District Units made up the biggest contingency of the competition. Excellent effort form all involved and although no medals this time we couldn't be prouder and you couldn't have worked harder.  4th for Continuity and 6th for Armed Guard, competition at this level is a very stressful occasion and everyone gave over 100%.

Proud as punch were the team trainers, captain and Lieutenant Commander (SCC) Jay Beddow RNR, the ARO of the outstanding performance at the National 5-a-side Football Competition, so much so he treated them all to an ice-cream to say thank you. The second year running for the girls with noteable hero's of the teams made up of both Sherbourne & Vernon players, Tia, the highest goal scorer of the competition and due to illness, Izzy, newly enrolled 2 weeks prior, joined the team as goalie half an hour before the bus left Birmingham.

Staff and fellow cadets from both units congratulate you all on your spectacular achievement, some premier league players here in the making.

Changes to the level and way in which regulating is paid were agreed by the UMT at the September meeting to be effective from 1st January 2015.

Preferred method by standing order, £12 per head per calendar month, payable on the 1st of the month. When paying by standing order a 50% reduction for second and subsequent siblings applies.  Alternatively cash payments of £2 per head per session paid on the day.  All cadets must report for regulating to ensure their attendance is recorded for Health & Safety.

Regulating monies are charitable contributions so contributions are worth a further 25% to us and costs nothing more to you.  If you are a basic rate tax payer we can claim back the tax you paid because charitable contributions are tax free. A further 25% towards Unit funds can make a big difference to us and the quality of service we can provide to our young people.

Dubbed ‘The Magnificent Seven’ by the Local Press, on Tuesday 10th February the enrolment of 7 new entry cadets took place. Rhianna (12), Connor (12), Alex (12), Kayleigh (12), Isabelle (12), Georgia (12) and James (13). 

Their enrolment comes at the end of some months of preliminary training and is the culmination of their own efforts and the dedication of the staff and experienced cadets of Birmingham TS Sherbourne. In enrolling, Cadets made the Sea Cadet promise and began what will hopefully be a long and satisfying career as a fully-fledged Cadet. From this point, they have access to all the resources of the Premier Youth Organisation in the UK and will be equipped to make a full contribution to the community and others both in the Cadets and beyond.

Parents and school representatives were present at the ceremony officiated over by Chaplain Thomas and Parliamentary Candidate for Selly Oak Constituency Alex Boulter. This is a significant moment in these young peoples’ lives, wearing their full dress uniform for the first time as recognition of completing the end of their probationary training.

Their fellow cadets and staff congratulate them and welcome them into the fold, wishing them success for their future as Sea Cadets.
